Setting limits

When you get a little advanced in the game it is very critical to choose which limit to play at and to stick to that limit. Choose the limit based on your financial situation, your skill at poker and also how you handle risk.
That having been said even if you are wealthy, it is better to start off at the lower limits for the simple reason that the competition there is much less. Professionals don’t play at lower stakes so that makes the lower limit a relatively safe place to start your poker career at. So when you begin even if you have pots of money it is still better to start lower. And even if you can stomach losses, for the sake of your game its better to start at the lower limits.
Once you’ve chosen a limit, the next move comes when you move up and down your limit. The limit you choose should be such that you’re comfortable playing at it. Don’t choose a limit that’s so high playing scares you. When you play when you’re scared, you’re almost sure to lose. The problem with playing at the higher limit is that if you lose your first few games, you probably don’t have the financial backing to last at that level. And even if you win a couple of games, it’s very hard to continue winning.
Also another thing to keep in mind is that once you choose a high limit for some time, it is wise to move down. However don’t move down to the other end of the spectrum. Going to the other end is unlikely to have you motivated because you are playing for a very small sum. So choose a limit that keeps you comfortable and motivates you to play your game.
