There are many different styles of playing poker but all of them are similar in one sense or the other. The three most popular versions of poker are Texas hold ‘em, 7 card stud and 5 card draw.

Texas Hold ‘em starts with two forced bets to the players sitting clockwise from the dealer. All players are dealt two cards face down, after which point the player chooses to bet or fold, after which a group of three community cards dealt into the middle of the table called the flop and a round of betting between the next two community cards, the turn and the river which is then punctuated by a final round of betting. The winner tries to make the strongest five card had they can with their two hole cards and the five community cards.  In this game, any player at any time can decide to bet their entire chip stack on their hand even before the first community cards are dealt.

7 card stud starts with a forced ante where each player receives two cards face down and one card face up followed by rounds of betting. After this three face up cards are dealt and then the final face down card is dealt. The final round of betting ends with the winner choosing the strongest hand possible out of the seven dealt cards.

5 card draw starts with 5 cards being dealt to each anted player. After this there is a round of betting after which each player choose to give back all the 5 cards he has received and get 5 new ones off the deck.  There can be multiple rounds of better as a variation and wild cards being specified before the hand is being dealt.
